Potential for problems with night shade family foods

If one is dealing with a health condition that is related to inflammation it may be a good idea to check for night shade family food intolerance if those foods are used in their diets. Even though most of the night shade family of foods can be nutritious, they can also have a double edge to them by causing unwanted pain and inflammation for those who are intolerant to them.

The night shade family foods:

peppers

tomato

potato

eggplant

tobacco

paprika

Up to 25% of the population is known to be intolerant to these foods and up to 85% of people with arthritis symptoms can be intolerant to these foods.

If a person has an intolerance to these foods the body will often accumulate an acidic inflammation response resulting in unwanted pain and irritation

Green peppers can be even more difficult for anyone to digest since they are immature red or yellow peppers. Also tomato in the common market place are often picked green in the field and sent to ware houses to be gassed to look red. The lack of proper maturity when picked causes the fruits to be difficult to digest. This factor can add “insult to injury” to those who may already be intolerant to the night shade family foods.

There are lab tests to screen for food intolerance, but some simple home measure can be used without expensive testing:

Pulse testing first thing in the morning is a basic way to check for food intolerance.

First thing in am before eating or drinking take pulse for 1 min, then eat piece of food you desire to test. Right after eating check pule for 1 min. If your pulse rate increases by more than 10 beats per min it is likely to be an intolerant food causing an adrenal response to the food consumed. Be sure to test only 1 food per day as other foods in the digestive system may alter potential results.

Another way to check for intolerance related to inflammatory reactions is to avoid the food in question for 1 week and observe for pain and inflammation. Then after 7 days of avoidance eat large amount of the food in question and observe for pain and inflammation. If pain levels and inflammation increase after eating large amounts it is also very likely to be a reactive food and better to avoid in the diet
